“When it gets dark enough; you can see the stars”

My journey started long before I deployed overseas, but that’s where Hair On Win was born.

I’m a small town girl, with big dreams. Growing up in Lumberton, NC with two siblings and one having developmental delays was challenging. As an early teen, I started to realize how my future life was going to be. With older parents, a sister with delays, and a much younger brother; I knew that I would need to provide for my siblings (specifically for my sister).

At 20 years old, I joined the North Carolina National Guard. I served 10 years and I did one deployment in 2019 to Kuwait.

After returning home in 2020, I started Cosmetology School at Wake Tech and later transferred to Central Carolina Community College, where I graduated with an Associates in Cosmetology and minor in Business Administration. During my time at CCCC I ran cross country for two years. Both years I help our team win Regionals for our region. I also worked for the Veterans Upward Bound as a program assistant, as a work study student which later became my part time job for the summer. This is where I started working on my coloring diary.

After my time at CCCC, I received a scholarship at Methodist University, this is where I decided to go to school for music in drum set. I was at MU for two short semesters, but i did run cross country and I was on the drumline. Unfortunately MU music program was dissolving and as the only music student left I had to look else where for my music journey. This is where I found Fayetteville State University.

Currently, I am a third year college student at FSU, and a part time hairstylist at JCPenney's Salon in Fayetteville NC.
